Here's a screenshot of the updated release page:

Artist Page:

Label Page:

These changes will also include a new feature, allowing you to add personal notes on your collection and wantlist. Wantlists will have a basic notes field, which can be edited on the release page and wantlist page. With collections you'll be able to set your own custom fields. Here's a screenshot of the page where you'll do it:

There are several more small enhancements with this update but these are the big changes. Let us know if you have any initial feedback based on the screenshots. Thanks!

CAN'T WAIT!!!
Now all we need is an iPhone app for use WHILE digging in the stores!!!
@ release page: pretty nice, I like: data quality rate, the link to video and the overview how many are available on discogs marketplac... i dislike: you link to iTunes - the most untrue monopolist download store, the oppressor of labels, artists and competetors.
@ artist page: where are the labels, the artist released on in overview, a small gallery for all pictures would be great, so I dont have to get into more images to get an overview which pictures are at discogs, which categories aret there for sort? for sure useful ;)
@ label page: nice, can I look up artists releases on this label? overview for the artists, who released on the label?
pretty much like the new layout
releasepage could be sneaker though by:
- not making the iTunes tracklayout standard old format worked out well with the samll frames behind the track
- contributors are put too far away from the actual releaseinfo, unexperienced users may not relate those names to the release displayed with the new position aside the release...
really would appreciate, if iTunes was not the only digital store linked to...
you've started small and independent, so better support smaller DL shops aswell
sanjay, we're planning to add more DL shops at some point. And you can always disable the itunes links. It's in your settings.
Veeeery nice. But I wonder how track credits will look. And I'm not very happy about the itunes thing either. Itunes is available only in twenty-something countries, everyone else is not worthy enough for them. Also I wouldnt pay them a cent for those AAC files. It seems to be unfair to promote such an unfair company on discogs.
I can't wait for the new collection fields! In general, looks organized and simple. In a good way. :)
Everything looks good for sure, but the release page looks a bit cluttered.
I like everyone at first glance but I'm worried about credits. The new tracklisting seems like having extra credits and artists may look off. Care for a screenshot of an example of multiple artists and track only credits?
The album site looks pretty much like a download shop. But all in all the look is clean, contemporary and organized. Well done!
Cool. It was about time :)
Release page:
1) impossible to comment without seeing an example which has lots of credits on it spread around the release to multiple artists. Are they all to be moved off the tracklist now or will there still be a mix of per track credits and others in a dedicated area?
2) It's not clear how the addition or editing of notes will take place on the release page. This should be quite clear, as navigating from a release page to My Collection, and then using the slow and frequently broken or just useless collection search function, or paging through the collection searching for one entry, will be time consuming.
3) generally the page looks crowded and cramped, and that's for a fairly basic release entry with very little info on it.
Artist page looks fine in the example but it's missing almost all of the data that appears on the existing Autechre page, so is difficult to assess. Assume in that case that the rest of the page will be unchanged.
Label page - as on the artist page it's unclear what the sorting options will be, and what the "edit" and "genre" links at the top of the list of releases are for.
It would be useful to know, once the custom fields have been set for My Collection, how these will then be edited. From the release page? From the My Collection list? In the example image, the Collection link opens the dialogue to set up the fields...but that link currently opens the collection list. Where will the actual collection be displayed?
Some interesting changes. Aesthetically it appears to improve the artist and label pages, while making the release pages less user friendly in terms of layout.
Do you have ETA for this? Will there be a beta testing stage where we can test all the new features and have any problems fixed before it's launched to the masses?
About the artist page, it would be cool to have the name of the artists listed under the "Remix", "Production", "Appears on" etc column.
As a seller, I like the fact that the More Shopping Options: have disappear from the main pages !
i like the layout as well as the note fields - a major plus.
on the other hand, i profoundly dislike the submitter's name being quasi hidden away in the far bottom right corner. but that's just another predictable step towards the eventual anonymity of the contributions, right?
it reminds me of the "Report" button for incorrect listings which, surprisingly or not, is practically undetectable in a light grey small font, also in the far bottom right corner.
good!
on artist/label pages: how do i add a release?. i dont see the link.
on release page: hate the buttons, i perferred the text link. the release page looks like it will take an extra 10-15 seconds to load, and when going through a lot of releases, those few seconds will add up and make for an irritating experience.
also very cluttered for a release with not much in the credits department (also dont like the credits being below the tracklisting, but i'm sure i'll [have to] get used to it)
looks all good, but will it be possible to scroll & rate?
I wanted to suggest for Discogs.com website, to make editable review. Because review is not some simple comment. People, who dare to write a review in Discogs.com website, and find such a feature, know why they have such an opinion, I think. And if there are left any mistakes, it doesn't looks so serious. Besides, it can be serious mistakes. And your style, to make review so primitive and complicated to post, looks like you are serving for someone, who is afraid of truth or critique. Of course it is different problem, when not competent people are commenting, just to spoil everything. But I haven't noticed such reviews in Discogs website. Besides, there are many websites, that have editable comments.
Is this fait accompli (as usual) or is there going to be an opportunity for users to test it out before the changes are committed?
this is awesome!!
i can't wait for it!! :)
Now, while I'll admit that I've always been fond of the uncluttered and simple look of the typical 'ogs release page as it's been for the last few years, I am not adverse to seeing a few changes -- providing everything one needs is visible and can be seen QUICKLY (consider the voting process).
As others have pointed out, the example you've given is a "simple" release. Kevin, could you generate a capture of how something a little more complex like [r=507476] would look under the new layout?
Just let the old design there!
Its enough to see all that web 2.0 stuff on facebook, myspace and so on...
LiZ
Please guys, add RSS option to Label Page, Artist Page, Seller Page... whatever.. but i need it!!!!!!!
Thanks, good lucky
One thing that is missed on the artist page: to show all other main artists of the release.
It's a problem that comes up regularly. the moment there is a form of collaboration, the release list gets vague.
With classical releases it's even a disaster...
You don't get anywhere without the search engine... even for a simple overview...
-
Also, filters, or search within a page...
Really miss them, hope the update can provide them?
Hello... is there a way to enhance the Master Releases page too??
It needs serious enhancement, e.g. include artist names (in case of compilations...) or tracks names from ALL releases included in the MR...
If these are actual screenshots, it looks great! (although they seem more like a mock-up to me? It'll be very nice if they're not!) :)
When do the changes become visible?
September 28, 2009.
No, because that was yesterday and everything looks the same currently.
Cool. Much better than before.
One thing I should recommend: links need underlines.
I like it very much. Way better than before.
