Bassi Maestro’s Favorite Double 45s

The Honey Drippers ‎– Impeach The President / Roy C's Theme

The Honey Drippers ‎– Impeach The President / Roy C’s Theme

12”, 7” or whatever this has to stay on top, always a pleasure to cut those hard knocking drums. Getting the OGs is a tough and expensive task, luckily this recent Alaga repress is a really good sounding and affordable one! A must have.

Dexter Wansel ‎– New Beginning / Time Is Slipping Away

Dexter Wansel ‎– New Beginning / Time Is Slipping Away

I fell in love with this song way before The Lox’ “Money Power Respect”, when Italian pioneer The Next One used it on his Next Diffusion’s single “Il Meglio Dal Peggio Remix” in ’95. It’s the right track to set the mood right, a great mix of struggle chords and head nod factor.

The Jimmy Castor Bunch ‎– Troglodyte Cave Man

The Jimmy Castor Bunch – It’s Just Begun

Released as a B-side of this Italian “Troglodyte” press, “It’s Just Begun” is the anthem. I used to rock the UBB doubles back in the day, very useful and catchy record when the party is on.

Jon Kane ‎– In Ancient Times

Jon Kane – In Ancient Times

Found this “obscure-ish” one while randomly diggin in Bern a few years ago. It’s a killer soul gospel record, both sides are great but this track sounds like a Wu sample, it’s banging! The second copy I found has a strange bump that makes the record skip on time, I don’t care and use it like it is as you can see in the demo video :)

Three Dog Night ‎– Joy To The World : I Can Hear You Calling album cover

Three Dog Night – I Can Hear You Calling

Diamond D, one of my favourite producers used this on his first album, then it became a classic break. The BPMs of the track makes it perfect for the needle drop technique, I could go on cutting the intro for hours.

Sly & The Family Stone ‎– Everyday People : Sing A Simple Song

Sly & The Family Stone – Sing A Simple Song

This break is one of THOSE breaks. It’s an easy to find record and it’s also very cheap. Cutting the original song brings back memories, but some alternative versions are also great, check the video.

Stevie Wonder - Passo Le Mie Notti Qui Da Solo

Stevie Wonder – Passo Le Mie Notti Qui Da Solo

This is a funny one. Italian version of “Music Talk” from 1968, I don’t know what it is but the break on this version is bigger and phatter, maybe because it’s a mono mix. Great early soul track with and outstanding intro, Italy wins again!

Frida ‎– I Know There's Something Going On

Frida – I Know There’s Something Going On

I started to DJ at school parties in the early 80s and tracks like this were the shit back then. I still play this cheap break, it’s got that hard rock slamming drums, it’s fast and it still keeps the party going

Pro Arte (2) ‎– Jedna Mala Plava : Stavi Ruke Oko Struka Mog

Pro Arte – Jedna Mala Plava

Great prog band from Yugoslavia, Pro Arte are known to have great samples and breaks if you dig through their early works. This song can be played for just a few bars, but that intro is really something. Get your cheap copy now from some Discogs seller from eastern Europe ;)

Rare Earth - Fresh From The Can

Rare Earth – Fresh From The Can

This song starts as a fast track, then it slows down and mellows out with this psychedelic break, I cut this doubles when I feel like I need to get in the zone.

Honorable mentions:
The Meters – Here Comes The Meter Man
Rufus Thomas – Itch And Scratch Pt.2
