Breaking Discogs Database Records

The Discogs submitting community have broken records recently, by adding over 3000 releases to the database on Sunday the 27th January and Sunday the 17th February!

If 3000 releases per day were entered constantly, just over a million releases per year would be added to the music database.

As of today, submitters have added nearly three and three quarter million releases to the database, about two and three quarter million artists discographies, and four hundred and forty thousand labels. You can keep up with the current totals, as well as the new additions to the database, at http://www.discogs.com/explore

As a side note, it would take about 178 years to listen to all the records so far cataloged. Better get started!

So one the bull of heaven album alone is longer than the entire discogs catalog?
    Wow

I am slowly inputting my collection of over 1500 45rpm 7 inch records. I am trying to be as accurate as possible. I am fixing an error people are reporting and I am getting better. I have been needing to put my collection into a database like this for a long time. Thanx!

I understand Jayfive. I found Discogs a couple years ago and find it a valuable place to keep tabs and research on my own collection. Submissions is something I still need advice and corrected on, but I do love the system. I was worried about being a buyer at first and am even more about trying to sell and keep up the standard .
I hate the fact sellers would be lazy about the DB submissions just so a record can be marketed.
    ‘mon the ‘Ogs!

I would wonder about how many of these submissions have been voted correct.
I’d like to think that recent improvements to the sub form and automated warnings have improved overall submission quality. There was a time that any visit to the front page at any given time would bring some real travesties.
There have been a glut in recent weeks of users here purely to sell who just want to dump submissions in the DB quick and have no interest in fixing important data like correct artist/label and then throw tantrums and cry ‘harassment’ when votes and even helpful advice comes in.

    I love it as well.

I’m playing all my records at 78rpm so I’m confident that I will manage to listen to all records catalogued.
