International Women’s Day is a celebration, yes. But it’s so much more, March 8 is the day when we celebrate and honor all together the achievements of women to —it’s sad that we have to say this in 2020— reach equality. We firmly believe that societies all around the globe will never reach their true potential until this becomes a reality. We wish we could celebrate at this point that everything’s been already achieved and it’s all something we can speak about using the past tense. But unfortunately, women worldwide keep facing discrimination based on their gender.
In what concerns Discogs specifically, the world of music, we would like to ask you to take a minute to think about how different the music landscape would be without the contribution of women. It’s easy to just think about the performers since they are the visible side of the business, but the reality of this industry is that women have played and will keep playing an essential role in every single aspect of it. It’s easier to recognize the presence of women as performers because they’re facing the public, but women are also essential to production, management, pressing plants, public relations, music writers, musicians… Thanks to all of you for making music better with your work.
To celebrate International Women’s Day, we wanted to share with you our little contribution to this day: a selection of articles focused on women. We hope you all enjoy it!
