Discogs Mix 58 – Operator Emz of Mobile Mondays!
Discogs is proud to once again team up with Mobile Mondays! to present a special Live edition of NYC’s premier all-45s weekly DJ showcase! The May 15th, 2017 event downstairs at The Bowery Electric will feature Midnight Magic, as well as another special guest act to be announced soon! Stay tuned to the event page for further details!
In support of the May 15th special event, MM! crew member Operator Emz hit us with a live recording of a mix from a previous edition of Mobile Mondays!
Operator Emz is a DJ, music producer, Hip Hop expert, noted collector and curator based in New York City. He throws the weekly party Mobile Mondays!, in homage to the 45 record. He grew up alongside Hip Hop, with the 70’s Bronx as backdrop. Graffiti claimed him pre-adolescence and he became Emz One, growing his street culture skill set throughout the 80’s in New York City and in Los Angeles. As a teen he cut his deejay teeth on college radio and learned the music business in the offices of some of Hip Hop’s elite movers and makers.
Emz went from college radio to co-host one of the first commercial Hip Hop radio shows in LA, “The Joint.” On KBET, he combined his encyclopedic knowledge of music with sardonic humor, earning fans and making “King Emz” a local celebrity. He also found himself working at the newly minted Interscope Records, as a promotor of records like The Chronic.
After years on the business side of the music industry, Emz turned his focus to production and events. He has produced records (as DJ Emz) for Cyndi Lauper, Missin’ Linx, and Joell Ortiz. He launched Mobile Mondays! and collaborates with artists like longtime friend John Stanier of Battles, playing events like the Silent Disco party at MoMA. Adidas asked Greene to help design the Adidas Pro Model for 2013, bringing his sneaker guru know-how to their operation in Berlin. As a DJ, Greene has worked for Nike, Sony, Warner, Universal, and Absolut for events worldwide. As a curator, Michael Greene introduces underground classics to new audiences.

Mobile Mondays! is a weekly event 45 RPM record and has quickly become New York City’s premier 45‘s vinyl night for music lovers. Every week is presented by Operator Emz, Natasha Diggs, Joey Carvello, Just Blaze, Misbehaviour, and $$$ Mike. Hosted by Rebecca Lynn, MM! brings NYC’s vinyl rats together to celebrate everything from Disco to Garage, curated from the inside. For the artists and creatives who congregate, MM! is a chance to go back to the New York City they loved best; when records were events, the DJ was on the pulpit and the dance floor was epic.
It all goes down on Monday nights, 10pm at The Bowery Electric – 327 Bowery at 2nd Street in the heart of NYC’s East Village!
