Help server down

We are currently having an issue with a server that runs our email system, help.discogs.com, and advanced account activation. We are not sure exactly what the issue is, but we expect to have it up and running at some point today. Sorry for any inconvenience whilst this gets fixed.

    Notice, the new internal email system is active, so I see (near your ‘logged in as… ‘ at the top of every page).
    This should really help in those users missing emails from their main email accounts regardless of which type of main account you use.

    If you have missed an email comment/vote/reject/acceptance then I presume one will be available from this part of Discogs from now on.

    OK, so online emails are working fine it seems, probably cause they circumvent filters associated with ISP POP accounts controls. (Perhaps ?)

    However myself, and many other users, prefer to use our email program (eg. Outlook Express) so we can download our emails and have them controlled on our machine, rather than any online service.
    What about those of you using POP accounts in your email program — anyone having difficulties with there’s ?

    I’m experiencing the same mail problems as the users above.
    No confirmation on accepted releases, no mail about the Submission Skills-thing, but I did get a confirmation mail for an item I bought. Discogs.com is at the safelist of my Hotmail inbox, so I guess that ain’t the problem.

    I already had a gmail account, so I switched my Discogs address to that last night. This morning I have the new releases and wantlist emails, so that must have been the problem. Cheers.

    I contacted my ISP this morning: Discogs is far from blocked!

    I wish it was that simple, so that i could correct that mistake but one of the first things I did was to check my filter system (with Supanet you can choose to do it automatically or manually) but nope no filter for any Discogs emails.

    I also still get emails for records I have sold, so i would say it’s a problem from the base server which needs to be sorted.

    Last week I have duly received the e-mail for 2 sold items though.

    Tomorrow I contact my ISP to see ig they have filtered discogs.

    Perhaps more importantly, users who are having difficulties with spam filtering that is being operated by their ISPs should get in contact with their ISPs and get Discogs emails ‘allowed’ somehow.

    Try getting them to do it for ALL your ISPs email account holders, rather than just your own account on the ISP, so that other Discogs users who happen to use your ISP as well will not have to ask for this again themselves.
    Inform them that Discogs does NOT send out unsolicited emails of any kind, and it is affecting many users work on the site, so you don’t know why they should impose such a thing on [i]any[/i] of their email account holders. See what response you get to the request, then fill us all in on here as to how well this went down with them, and whether it worked or not ;-) .

    Obviously an in-house email system would be extremely good for this in the future, but as that may be some while away from being implemented on here (?), doing this in the meantime should surely help.

    We think ISPs have gotten very aggressive with spam filtering in the past few months. (I just read that global spam volume has doubled in the past 12 months). If you’re not getting messages it’s mostly likely that your ISP is blocking them. We really have no control over this so we’re about to launch a local messaging system (like Private Messages on other sites). That way we can guarantee delivery.

    If you urgently need to receive the messages I suggest you switch to a gmail account. I receive Discogs alerts there, no problems.

    Yes, I’m experiencing time-outs during moderating and updating, also in the marketplace. Browser freezing whilst viewing large submissions (have to end script in Firefox).

    I think I’ll pop out for a walk instead ;)

    We lost some incoming emails when the help server went down. We are currently trying to recover the information, but if you have not had any reply, it is perhaps best to resend your email.

    Same here. However it’s not so bad, a recent update has added highlights to pending submissions. If you’re working on a submission, and don’t know what credit to put in, just put in what you think is correct. If it isn’t, it’ll be highlighted light blue when you do a preview. That at least tells you that it’s not a “proper” credit.

    I have to check my user history to see my accepted pendings and to follow-up updates spawned by them (mainly aliasing the newly created artists)

    The problem is for rejected updates which of course don’t have history. But maybe I shouldn’t bother that much since N-votes are a rare occurance for me :-)

    I haven’t received a discogs email of ANY kind for ages now.

    No ‘new items for sale’ ‘new additons to the database’ for at least a week.

    I did get a ‘new comment’ email a little while ago, which was nice…

    I changed my email a few days ago to see if that helped, but still nothing. :-(

    my advanced subscription is about to expire (11th). what happens if the server is still down then? i guess i can just extend it later without losing any data. isn’t it?

    We are still working on this problem I’m afraid, it is a bit deeper than initially thought. I am very sorry for any inconvenience caused.
