Help server down

We are currently having an issue with a server that runs our email system,, and advanced account activation. We are not sure exactly what the issue is, but we expect to have it up and running at some point today. Sorry for any inconvenience whilst this gets fixed.

Sorry folks, there is a problem, Kevin is working on it, should be back up in a few hours, sorry for any inconvienience. Slightly out of date (and slow) guidelines can be seen here.

  • Jul 22,2007 at 04:22

Today I can’t access the help section. Is it down?

  • Jun 8,2007 at 16:21

…just wish I could do some PROPER moderation, rather than pseudo-modding, hey — shit happens, hey ?

  • Jun 8,2007 at 16:11

Notice, the new internal email system is active, so I see (near your ‘logged in as… ‘ at the top of every page).
This should really help in those users missing emails from their main email accounts regardless of which type of main account you use.

If you have missed an email comment/vote/reject/acceptance then I presume one will be available from this part of Discogs from now on.

    Enjoy. Yum yum ;-)
What about those of you using POP accounts in your email program — anyone having difficulties with theirs’s ?

  • Jun 6,2007 at 19:17

    or even'…their’s ?’

  • Jun 6,2007 at 19:16

OK, so online emails are working fine it seems, probably cause they circumvent filters associated with ISP POP accounts controls. (Perhaps ?)

However myself, and many other users, prefer to use our email program (eg. Outlook Express) so we can download our emails and have them controlled on our machine, rather than any online service.
What about those of you using POP accounts in your email program — anyone having difficulties with there’s ?

I’m experiencing the same mail problems as the users above.
No confirmation on accepted releases, no mail about the Submission Skills-thing, but I did get a confirmation mail for an item I bought. is at the safelist of my Hotmail inbox, so I guess that ain’t the problem.
If you urgently need to receive the messages I suggest you switch to a gmail account. I receive Discogs alerts there, no problems.
I already had a gmail account, so I switched my Discogs address to that last night. This morning I have the new releases and wantlist emails, so that must have been the problem. Cheers.

  • Jun 4,2007 at 02:03

I contacted my ISP this morning: Discogs is far from blocked!
I also still get emails for records I have sold
Me too: sold 2 items last week and duly received e-mail instantly.

  • Jun 4,2007 at 00:33

I wish it was that simple, so that i could correct that mistake but one of the first things I did was to check my filter system (with Supanet you can choose to do it automatically or manually) but nope no filter for any Discogs emails.

I also still get emails for records I have sold, so i would say it’s a problem from the base server which needs to be sorted.

  • Jun 3,2007 at 21:22
I use my hotmail account for Discogs and have always received my emails…
Me too.
[u=teo]s story is true though. I have noticed this a lot lately. Even big ISPs are blocking each others mailserver IPs.

  • Jun 3,2007 at 10:56

Last week I have duly received the e-mail for 2 sold items though.

Tomorrow I contact my ISP to see ig they have filtered discogs.

  • Jun 3,2007 at 07:41

I use my hotmail account for Discogs and have always received my emails…

  • Jun 2,2007 at 23:47

Perhaps more importantly, users who are having difficulties with spam filtering that is being operated by their ISPs should get in contact with their ISPs and get Discogs emails ‘allowed’ somehow.

Try getting them to do it for ALL your ISPs email account holders, rather than just your own account on the ISP, so that other Discogs users who happen to use your ISP as well will not have to ask for this again themselves.
Inform them that Discogs does NOT send out unsolicited emails of any kind, and it is affecting many users work on the site, so you don’t know why they should impose such a thing on any of their email account holders. See what response you get to the request, then fill us all in on here as to how well this went down with them, and whether it worked or not ;-) .

Obviously an in-house email system would be extremely good for this in the future, but as that may be some while away from being implemented on here (?), doing this in the meantime should surely help.

We think ISPs have gotten very aggressive with spam filtering in the past few months. (I just read that global spam volume has doubled in the past 12 months). If you’re not getting messages it’s mostly likely that your ISP is blocking them. We really have no control over this so we’re about to launch a local messaging system (like Private Messages on other sites). That way we can guarantee delivery.

If you urgently need to receive the messages I suggest you switch to a gmail account. I receive Discogs alerts there, no problems.

  • Jun 2,2007 at 07:36

It seems a lot of us are still suffering and yet no one wants to tell us anything?

It would be nice to know that your looking into it at least?

  • Jun 2,2007 at 00:12

Have not recieved e-mails from Discogs since May 6th.

  • May 30,2007 at 01:00

    Stiil the same for me.

  • May 30,2007 at 00:55

Just curious to know if this problem is likely to be fixed soon?

  • May 28,2007 at 01:18

…is it possible to know when the problem will be fixed? Thanxxx.

Did this problem only start since a couple of weeks ago? Or was it happening before that time?

  • May 25,2007 at 01:48
No I still haven’t had any emails for my accepted or declined additions, nor have I received any for sale emails.
Same for me.

  • May 25,2007 at 01:25

it’s the same for me…I still haven’t had any emails for my favorite artists and favorite labels. I tried to change my email address but the problem persists… :o(

Hey marcelrecords – I have fixed the search for the moment – it uses the Google search engine – Going to run more checks today for broken help section links.

  • May 21,2007 at 13:36

hi there, there still are a lot of links not working or not properly working, including the link to ”search help”, which is very annoying. if you need a list of other dead links I found, please say so and I will try to catch them.

  • May 21,2007 at 00:26
Although I haven’t had the same probs as josephschembri with receiving emails.
Still with the problem, unfortunately.

  • May 20,2007 at 16:06

You’re probably aware of this already, but just in case you’re not, the Help pages seem to be back but the Tickets and Browse Tickets section is missing. Although I haven’t had the same probs as josephschembri with receiving emails. Getting those fine.

  • May 20,2007 at 15:47

Same here.. I did not received “Daily Alert based on my Favorite” for almost two weeks now..

  • May 18,2007 at 11:48

    Nik, I’m still not receiving.

  • md
    May 18,2007 at 11:41

Help section is back but it says “Discogs Advanced” in the browser’s page title.

  • May 17,2007 at 14:21
Discogs is way to slow today though.
Yes, I’m experiencing time-outs during moderating and updating, also in the marketplace. Browser freezing whilst viewing large submissions (have to end script in Firefox).

I think I’ll pop out for a walk instead ;)

  • May 17,2007 at 12:17
I’m still :0) !
I meant I’m still not receiving.

  • May 17,2007 at 12:08

I still receive the mails. Discogs is way to slow today though.

Yes, if you are still having problems, please let me know, thanks!
The email should be working now,
Even e-mails from accepted/commented pendings?

  • nik
    May 17,2007 at 06:36

The email should be working now, please let me know if there is still a problem.

We lost some incoming emails when the help server went down. We are currently trying to recover the information, but if you have not had any reply, it is perhaps best to resend your email.

  • May 16,2007 at 14:07
Nope I haven’t had Jack all for a while in fact 08/05/07 was my last?
Same here. However it’s not so bad, a recent update has added highlights to pending submissions. If you’re working on a submission, and don’t know what credit to put in, just put in what you think is correct. If it isn’t, it’ll be highlighted light blue when you do a preview. That at least tells you that it’s not a “proper” credit.

  • May 14,2007 at 11:10
So is it me only?

Nope I haven’t had Jack all for a while in fact 08/05/07 was my last?

  • May 14,2007 at 00:35

I have to check my user history to see my accepted pendings and to follow-up updates spawned by them (mainly aliasing the newly created artists)

The problem is for rejected updates which of course don’t have history. But maybe I shouldn’t bother that much since N-votes are a rare occurance for me :-)

  • May 13,2007 at 20:31

I haven’t received a discogs email of ANY kind for ages now.

No ‘new items for sale’ ‘new additons to the database’ for at least a week.

I did get a ‘new comment’ email a little while ago, which was nice…

I changed my email a few days ago to see if that helped, but still nothing. :-(

  • May 13,2007 at 11:12

Last e-mail I received after an update has been accepted was on 7/05/2007 at 19:39 !

  • May 13,2007 at 11:07
So am I.
That’s why I’m asking for an explanation!

  • May 13,2007 at 10:28
I get email notifications
So am I.

  • May 13,2007 at 10:19

    So is it me only?

    Nik/Teo help please!

  • May 13,2007 at 05:47

I get email notifications, at least I received one for a rejected submission. ;-)

  • May 13,2007 at 05:10

I ask again if there are more people not receiving e-mails everytime there is a comment on pendigs/acceptance/rejection.

  • May 12,2007 at 08:41

Is it a problem i only have then?

“Email me after activity on my pending submissions” is ticked on my profile!

  • May 12,2007 at 08:04

I have been receiving emails regularly for several days…

  • May 12,2007 at 06:21

We’re still not receiving e-mails after updates clearance right ?

  • May 11,2007 at 19:40

no problem. everything’s working now. :)

    May 10,2007 at 08:20

Hi ajundra – you should be able to extend it once we have the system back up and running. Sorry for any inconvenience in the meantime!

  • May 9,2007 at 10:29

my advanced subscription is about to expire (11th). what happens if the server is still down then? i guess i can just extend it later without losing any data. isn’t it?

    thanks for help!

    May 9,2007 at 04:01

We are still working on this problem I’m afraid, it is a bit deeper than initially thought. I am very sorry for any inconvenience caused.’s cache seems to be working quicker at the moment for the help section.

  • May 9,2007 at 02:41

Whazzup? Help server is still down.

  • May 8,2007 at 09:52

    By the way
It is best to use a slightly incorrect artist and correct them than to create a new, duplicate one.
I think, since there is the possibility to use ANVs, this sentence is redundant, isn’t it…?

  • May 8,2007 at 04:34

    thanks for the backup links

  • May 8,2007 at 04:33

Perhaps this should temporarily be made a sticky, so that all users can easily access the links you (nik) provided above.

  • May 8,2007 at 04:31

merges, renames should be affected as well.

    May 8,2007 at 04:31

Thanks Gecks, I think it is just this one server playing up.

It is also possible (albeit slow) to browse the help section up at the Internet Archive
