Discogs is back with another monthly breakdown of the most expensive vinyl, cassettes, and CDs sold in the Discogs Marketplace. As usual, we can see some of the classic acts whose records regularly rank on this roundup: David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, and, of course, Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon. There are some interesting new releases, like a live recording of Billie Eilish at Third Man Records and a recent box set of The Beatles.
However, we’ve only got eyes for the record at the No. 1 spot on the December edition. In fact, this record is also the new No. 1 on our list of the most expensive vinyl ever sold on Discogs.
Scaramanga Silk’s Choose Your Weapon is a gatefold that includes a 12-inch of the titular song, as well as a CD, art by Immyart, and a poem. This promotional release dethroned Prince’s Black Album, which was previously the most expensive record with a price tag of $27,500. Choose Your Weapon went for a whopping $41,095.
“It is very difficult to understand why the release went for that kind of money as I do not believe that any record is worthy of such a valuation. You imagine that the highly limited edition nature of it would have been a major factor. The individual who made the purchase must have had some kind of special connection to the work too. There was a buzz around the record in 2008,” Scaramanga Silk tells Discogs.

If you’re a CD collector, you may also be interested in No. 21 on this list. This anniversary box set from Bob Dylan also went for a high price, which landed it on our ranking of the 100 most expensive CDs.
