most expensive july 2021

Top 30 Most Expensive Items Sold on Discogs in July 2021

It’s time once again for our monthly breakdown of the most expensive records, cassettes, and CDs sold in the Discogs Marketplace. This month’s list includes some usual suspects like The Velvet Underground, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin, but there are also quite a few box sets that have cracked the top 30.

All four box sets on the list are housed in memorable packaging, but it’s what inside that really counts. The Wings 1971-1973 set includes CDs, DVDs/Blu-rays, and a 96-page photo book. The Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young CSNY 1974 box set offers a similar array of discs and ephemera, but they swap out the CDs for LPs. Metallica’s S&M2 offers vinyl, CDs, and a blu-ray of their performance with the San Francisco Symphony.

Released in 1987, label 4AD’s Lonely Is an Eyesore compilation is the only featured box set that wasn’t dropped in the last six years. That’s why it comes as no surprise that this version includes VHS and cassette tapes as well as CDs and vinyl. Each set is also very limited, with Lonely Is an Eyesore being the rarest. One hundred copies were made and only half were originally sold to the public. The rest were given to the bands that appeared on the compilation.

In addition to the rare box sets, the July 2021 ranking features obscure soul 45s. The Tiaras, Willie Tee, and Pat Lewis may not be household names, but their singles all recently sold for between $3,000 and $5,500.
