The Top 30 Most Expensive Items Sold on Discogs in October 2020

Discogs is back with another monthly breakdown of the most expensive vinyl, cassettes, and CDs sold in the Discogs Marketplace. As usual, we can see some of the classic acts whose records regularly rank on this roundup, such as rarities from the likes of Prince, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Minor Threat.

Bucking that trend, however, is a 2019 album from Billie Eilish that features a live set at Third Man Records. It was only available at the label’s two physical storefronts and each cover was hand-painted by Billie herself (if by “hand” you mean “paint-covered microphone”). The most-expensive list is typically dominated by older vinyl from the 1950s, ’60, and ’70s, but a modern release can certainly make the cut if it was only available in a limited run like this one. An original Live at Third Man Records also appeared on the June list, but the album was re-released as part of Record Store Day 2020, so the RSD edition has been the best-selling record on Discogs for two months running.

Billie Eilish isn’t the only gem to catch our eye on the October edition of most-expensive items. If you enjoy prog rock, you should check out Garden of Eden by Alabtros at No. 23. According to the Database, this German prog-rock six-piece only ran from 1974-1979 and released just one album with three songs. Because so few recordings exist, the LP is highly coveted by collectors and comes with a price tag to match (although nowhere near the priciest prog-rock releases on Discogs).
