The Most Popular New Albums on Discogs in April 2021

Our regular roundup of the most popular new albums is determined by how many Discogs users added the release to their Collections throughout each month. To be featured on the genre-specific lists, the album must have been released in 2021 in a physical format (like vinyl, CD, or cassette), so it won’t take into consideration digital streams.

April continues a trend that we’ve seen throughout the first few months of 2021. Since we’re still early in the year, many big-name artists haven’t released their albums yet, which leaves plenty of room for “smaller” artists. Discogs users obviously have diverse taste, and it shows when the most popular rankings aren’t dominated by the hits.

What are we listening to? El Madrileño by C. Tangana was a standout. The Madrid-born rapper collaborated with well-known artists in a variety of Latin-focused genres, such as flamenco and Spanish folk. The result is a wonderful, pop-forward album that defies specific genre classification. We also recommend L’Impératrice’s Tako Tsubo if you like electronic grooves and Degiheugi’s  Foreglow for eclectic hip-hop beats.

If you are interested in the big names, Lana Del Ray, Weezer, Stereolab, Steve Earle, Eric Church, and even Taylor Swift are just a few of the folks who have graced us with early 2021 releases.
