The Most Popular Music Releases of 2022 So Far

The year is already more than halfway over and a lot has happened in the past six months. If you’ve kept up with the most recent best-selling record lists, you may have a pretty good idea of what the Discogs Community is most excited about. However, the love for record stores means many purchases are happening outside of the Marketplace.

By looking at the number of releases added to Discogs Collections between January 1, 2022, and July 1, 2022, it becomes easier to understand which artists and new releases are currently most popular throughout the Community.

Three different pressings of Harry Styles‘ latest effort made the list, as well as two different versions of Jack White‘s Fear Of The Dawn. Other notable new releases include the debut full-length from The Smile, two variants of Wet Leg‘s self-titled album, and new albums from The Black Keys and Arcade Fire.

In addition to new releases, recent reissues have also claimed numerous spots throughout the top 50. Classic albums from David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, and Aaliyah made the cut, and the highly sought-after First Six Dischord Records box set caused quite a stir in the record collecting world.

After crunching the data, it’s clear that albums and EPs aren’t the only popular 2022 releases that feature reissued material. Four different greatest hits compilations found their way into thousands of collections. The Offspring and The Police each have a greatest hits album included here, and Pearl Jam‘s lengthy list of hits helped them land two separate volumes on the list.

Is this an indication that people’s listening habits are shifting? That’s a question that can’t be fully answered until the end of the year. Until then, here are the most popular releases from the first half of 2022!
