New trend graphs for Discogs

I’ve put up two new graphs that show activity on submissions.

  1. Side-wide Trends: http://www.discogs.com/subs/trends
Two graphs, each shows stats for the last 30 days. The top shows how many submissions were posted, cancelled, accepted, and rejected. The bottom graph shows what activity users have done on the submissions: voting, comments, edits.

  2. My Trends: http://www.discogs.com/subs/mytrends
Again, two graphs, each shows stats for the last 30 days. The top shows what has happened to your own submissions. And the bottom graph shows how you have participated on all submissions (votes, comments, edits).

If you hover your mouse over one of the bars you’ll get an exact count and date.

I started collecting data for these on midday Nov 5, so that’s why the beginning of the graphs are empty. I’m looking into a way of filling in the data for before Nov 5.

Links to these pages are available while browsing submissions (http://www.discogs.com/subs/browse) and your own submissions list (My Discogs -> Submissions).

enjoy!

I guess we have to vote for stats in the disbugs system now. :-(

  • Jul 10,2008 at 2:31 pm

Over 10% of the database now ‘Needs Vote’.
Over 17% of Releases now ‘Needs Vote’.

thanks for deleting my post [u=nik], care to explain why?
it was certainly on topic and I believe the information I requested is relevant and desired by a significant number of discogs members
    I didn’t insult anyone either

    :(

  • Jul 9,2008 at 7:40 am

i (still) want to see stats, updated daily, on the database quality / maturity:

“out of 1,026,253 items in the database –
XXX are marked as This release data is new to the Discogs database and has not received a vote yet
YYY are marked as This release data has recent changes made which have not been reviewed yet.
ZZZ are marked as User votes on this release data indicate that it needs changes made. ”

and trends too, to see how the new system is coping with the site growth.

    thanks.

The stats are being redone soon.
what is the trend regarding reliability of database?
I can give you a rough estimate on that one: it’s slowly degrading. ;)

  • Jul 9,2008 at 3:57 am

Is there a trend graph for long-term users leaving this site? for people who’ve never caused trouble around here, yet are increasingly getting topics deleted or banned from forums?

what is the trend regarding reliability of database?

    that would be interesting ;)

  • Jul 8,2008 at 10:12 am

Why impliment a new feature that was acually pretty good only to scrap it a few months later? Is this being brought back soon?

  • Jul 8,2008 at 9:08 am

[u=nik], [u=teo], any news on this?

  • Jul 6,2008 at 1:45 pm

    oh no!

  • Jul 6,2008 at 1:10 pm
Or was this scrapped already?
since v4

  • Jul 6,2008 at 7:36 am

For some reason beyond my grasp, both ”My” stats appear empty, even though I did vote and I did receive some too.
If I click on ”site-wide” an error message pops up..sigh…
    Or was this scrapped already?

  • Jul 6,2008 at 6:05 am

[u=nik], [u=teo], what happened with the stats btw????

  • Apr 18,2008 at 11:34 am

    Guys…. really?

I’m not asking for ish anymore… these people can do what they want just “strap up and hold on/hope for the best”….

  • Apr 18,2008 at 10:29 am
that’s hardly stats available and of use to us.
http://www.discogs.com/help/forums/topic/161426#2079936 :

About 13000 individual votes have been collected.

That will be X days worth of votes. Stats should also be being continually collected in order to determine potential new voters. It can’t be much of a job to change from displaying Y/N -> 5 possible voting categories.

Any information is better then the current total absence.

That’s one piddly forum post by [u=nik] – that’s hardly stats available and of use to us.

    Stats are available now:

As it doesn’t look like any bugs will be fixed anytime soon, let’s see voting stats please. Should be easy to do.

A million and one bugs, and this is what you are spending your time coding [u=teo]? Seriously?
Nice to see that there’s been an immdiate drop-off of subs since v4.0 came in. Nail. Coffin. Last.
Quite.
Cool. What’s the deal with the amount of cancellations around the 11th though?
That was all the Artist and Label merges that we had pending.
They were just cancelled without warning, although we did get an email to let us know it had been done (unusually polite).

This graph just shows that before long discogs is just going to be full of yellow incorrect unmoderated subs.

  • Jan 13,2008 at 3:01 pm

Sad that the “Submitted” bar hasn’t been below “Accepted” the last month – except 2 days… :(

  • Jan 13,2008 at 8:47 am

I visit the graphs page every day, since I like statistics, graphs and such kind of things :)

I don’t understand what the need is that this feature meets. I mean, I looked at it once, shrugged, and haven’t felt any desire to look at it again… am I missing something here?

  • Jan 3,2008 at 2:17 am

Amazing that there was not much of a slowdown on Christmas Day!! That’s dedication!

  • Jan 2,2008 at 4:29 pm

    cool

  • Dec 29,2007 at 7:10 am

initial comments (i.e.: submitter notes) on own subs should be excluded from the “My Participation on Submissions” section

  • Dec 22,2007 at 3:40 am

    This is pretty neat.

  • Nov 25,2007 at 11:16 am

What about a whole year stat? See when you submitted the most, that kind of things.

  • Nov 25,2007 at 4:20 am

    Cool gimmick.

  • Nov 15,2007 at 11:55 am

    interesting indeed.
What are we going to do with the information now that we have more than 50,000 new submissions pending?

I agree with comkai’s suggestion. This would be as interesting to see about members submitting as it would be about moderators.
    ;-)

  • Nov 13,2007 at 1:14 pm

    that’s a cool thing!
but it’d be also helpful to check other user’s trends, like http://www.discogs.com/subs/trends?user=xxx
any chance, that’s going to happen, too ?

  • Nov 13,2007 at 12:34 pm

    Thanks for this teo

    Agree with Jooles

  • Nov 13,2007 at 11:52 am

Excellent stuff, teo. Many thanks. It’ll get really interesting as we start to see the trends over time.

Would be really great if we could extend the trend analysis beyond the 30 days. For example, in 5 years’ time, it’ll be really interesting to be able to look back at the trends on a month-by-month, year-by-year basis.
as I dislike my graph it may stimulate me to increase my activity / productivity
heh, me too. I did some quick math and I’m not doing nearly as much as I thought I was.

These 30 day graphs are nice – are there any plans for over all stats too?

  • Nov 11,2007 at 4:19 am

    a cheerful update.
as I dislike my graph it may stimulate me to increase my activity / productivity
I’m looking into a way of filling in the data for before Nov 5.
So as there’s no way to see the stats Before the current 30 days and if the process of looking into a way of filling in the data may take more than 2 weeks it doesn’t deserve spending time on it (-:

  • Nov 10,2007 at 9:56 pm
I’m looking into a way of filling in the data for before Nov 5.
It would by nice if we could compare the current stats with a earlier period. That way we could get an indication of the effect of some of the system changes.
