Discogs Lists Highlights: Original Covers vs. Homages

The world of covers paying homage to other covers is my favorite Internet guilty pleasure. There, I said it!

I know I’m not alone in my little confessable addiction, while I was researching this piece, I found a good bunch of really cool lists created by Discogs users which helped me heaps while also making my life a bit more difficult because there were so many releases to pick! Before I carry on, I wanted to give credit to PabloPlato, tusovski, and TwinPowerForce for putting together such incredible resources for fellow artwork lovers. And I’m sure there are plenty more available out there.

So focusing on my selection, what will you find here? I tried to stay away from the punk homage covers. It’s a very common practice among punk bands to create album covers paying homage to previous punk albums, so I figured we could go for more interesting liaisons. In most cases, the connection between the two artists is not necessarily obvious, and I think that’s what makes it so attractive. Why did the second artist decide to pay homage to the first one? Is there any musical or aesthetical connection between both? Is it a joke?

If you have any theories about it, we wanna hear you! Make sure to leave your comment at the bottom of this article.
