Captcha now enabled on ‘Contact User’ form

Due to an instance of automated spam, we have enabled a captcha on the ‘Contact User’ form that lets Discogs users contact each other. Although slightly inconvenient for regular honest users, it should stop most all spam including instances of mass spam. We have recently put the same verification on the ticket system, again to […]

Release Diff links added on submissions

Now when you edit a pending submission it will add a “diff” link after the “Submission edited” message. Clicking that will show a highlighted overview of what was changed. This should be helpful to moderators as well as contributors. example: http://www.discogs.com/subs/view/1925597

Artist/Label rollovers now enabled

I’ve just turned on a new feature which shows a small popup box with artist/label info when you hover over an artist or label link. These popups are enabled on release form previews, submission views (/changereq?id=X), and the moderator interface. This will give you a brief overview of an artist or label without having to […]

New search engine online

I’ve just completed the upgrade of the Discogs search engine. The most important improvement is that it now handles unicode characters correctly. For example, you can search for Björk without errors. And searches for bjork will also find Björk. Catalog number searches are also improved (using the “Catalog#” dropdown). For example, a release with catalog […]

Mail Server Delays/Update

There have been some delays with Discogs sending out mails over the past few days (sometimes delaying up to a few hours). This was caused by spammers trying to use our server to send spam. Even though they are blocked their constant attempts slow things down. Today I set up a separate mail server dedicated […]

Discogs Development – Projects

Some people have recently voiced valid concerns and complaints about how improvements are managed, organized, and discussed here on Discogs (http://www.discogs.com/forums/topic?topic_id=101510#1337462 , http://help.discogs.com/ticket/1672 , http://www.discogs.com/forums/topic?topic_id=101510#1337622 ) . Since Teo and myself have been discussing almost exactly the same things earlier this month, and have made some progress with the management of these aspects, it is […]
