Soul Clap’s Top 10 House 45s Ahead Of Mobile Mondays!

Discogs is excited to once again partner with Mobile Mondays! to present a special edition of NYC’s premier all-45s weekly DJ showcase! The May 15th, 2017 event downstairs at The Bowery Electric will  feature cosmic Disco ensemble Midnight Magic performing live and exclusive DJ sets from Soul Clap!

Boston-bred, NYC residing duo Soul Clap came of age with a mission to understand this history of dance music, and to recognize that “House wears many hats.” Weaving a tapestry of sound that draws influence from Hip-Hop, Funk & Soul, and Disco, Soul Clap creates a truly unique House style all of their own. With over a decade of releases under their belts, including 30-plus 12″s and EPs, two albums, over a dozen official mixes, and over a hundred remixes and edits, Soul Clap has carved out a reputation for releasing quantity and quality at the same time. Always pushing new boundaries, always traveling through time and space, The Clap is on a mission to change the world one dance floor at a time. Their latest project is the 93rd installment of the esteemed Fabric mix series, entitled, naturally, Fabric 93.

In anticipation of the May 15 special edition of Mobile Mondays!, Soul Clap hit us with a list of their Top 10 House 45s!

Soul Clap's Top 10 House 45s: Kai Alcé ‎– Dirty South Dirt

1. Kai Alcé ‎– Dirty South Dirt

A secret weapon that came out on Omar S’ amazing FXHE Records. This is a down and dirty House workout that was so good it made it on to 12” a couple years ago.

Soul Clap's Top 10 House 45s: X.Panded Dimension.S ‎– Oweyi

3. X.Panded Dimension.S ‎– Oweyi

Drums for days from New York soulful House maestro Joe Claussell.

Soul Clap's Top 10 House 45s: Various ‎– Büchsenöffner Vol. 4/20

4. Various ‎– Büchsenöffner Vol. 4/20

I just got this one on 4/20 at OYE Records in Berlin. OYE always has great limited House/Techno/Electronic/weirdo 45s that are only available there. This one is printed on green vinyl with a potato print hand stamp and the classic “It’s 4:20 somewhere” sample over a Moodymann style beat. Special!

Soul Clap's Top 10 House 45s: Los Hermanos - Guidance

5. Los Hermanos – Guidance

I think I actually got this one back in the late 90s when my friend Emily Skeels gave me her collection of Detroit Techno on wax, but I didn’t know what a stone cold deep Techno jam it was until I started dropping it in my 7” House sets.

Soul Clap's Top 10 House 45s: Cybotron ‎– Cosmic Cars

6. Cybotron ‎– Cosmic Cars

Keeping it Detroit with one of Juan Atkins’ earliest Techno tracks from 1982. It’s always been one of my favorites and I flipped out when I found it on 45 at Love Vinyl in London last year.

Soul Clap's Top 10 House 45s: Various ‎– MAW Miami 2003

7. Various ‎– MAW Miami 2003

Another early addition to the collection, we picked this up at WMC 2003 when MAW was giving it out for promo. It has some serious MAW favorites in there like Mafikizolo “Morena” and Stacey Kidd “Where Did It Go.” At the time it was just a novelty, but these days it’s finally getting some good use.

Soul Clap's Top 10 House 45s: Jellybean ‎– Jingo

8. Jellybean ‎– Jingo

Jellybean’s take on this Loft classic is a Latin percussion monster that blows the party up every time.

Soul Clap's Top 10 House 45s: DMX Krew ‎– Worm Hole

9. DMX Krew ‎– Worm Hole

This one is an Electro banger released on DMX Krew’s Fresh Up Records back in the 2010. So many jams on this label from that time period.

Soul Clap's Top 10 House 45s: Soul Clap ft. Nona Hendryx - Shine (Dimitri From Paris & DJ Rocca Erodisco 7” Mix)

10. Soul Clap ft. Nona Hendryx – Shine (Dimitri From Paris & DJ Rocca Erodisco 7” Mix)

We made one clear 7” Lathe copy of the lead single from our last album just for my 7” sets. That’s right there’s only ONE!

Mobile Mondays! is NYC’s premier 45s vinyl night, founded in 2011 by Operator Emz, honoring the 45 RPM record. Its mission is to save the music, preserve DJ culture and bring back the vibe and soul of NYC.

The DJs (Operator Emz, Joey Carvello, Natasha Diggs, Misbehaviour, Money Mike, and Just Blaze) are real curators on the turntables who fold the crowd into their vision of the party. Every week, you will hear the rarest of grooves followed by classic dance floor burners. The DJs are the artistic directors of the party, each with a treasure trove of singles that have special significance to their musical journey. MM! takes listeners back to an era when DJs dug a little deeper and brings NYC’s vinyl rats and music lovers together to celebrate everything from Funk & SoulDisco, House, Punk Rock, New Wave, Pop, Salsa, Rock & Roll, Reggae, Rhythm & Blues and anything else classic and danceable on 45s and vinyl records. Mobile Mondays! takes place every Monday night at The Bowery Electric.
