Stay tuned to the event page for further details!
In anticipation of this special edition of Mobile Mondays!, crew members Operator Emz, Joey Carvello, Natasha Diggs, Misbehaviour, Money Mike, and Just Blaze give us a peek into their 45s cases and reveal some of their all-time favorites!
The Salsoul Orchestra – Ooh, I Love It (Love Break)
This track incorporates everything “Salsoul Disco.” It’s the quintessential representation of The Salsoul Orchestra with vocals by the greatest female Disco act of all time – First Choice. We did a Summerstage Salsoul Show a few years back and it was legendary. It’s also Rebecca Lynn’s all time favorite record. –Joey Carvello
Sly & The Family Stone – Sing A Simple Song
This is just a personal favorite of mine, among many other Sly songs. I grew up with this so I share it with my audience. –Operator Emz
Kid Creole & The Coconuts Present Coatimundi – Que Pasa/Me No Pop I
Classic Nuyorican vibes from this Dr. Buzzard’s Original Savannah Band member. Every time I drop this it feels like an instant party! –Natasha Diggs
Hopeton Lewis + Tommy McCook – Superman
I have a lot of different styles of Reggae on 45. I love this sound for MM! because it’s that late 60s soulful funky Jamaican music which works well with other music played at our events. –Misbehaviour
Class Action Featuring Chris Wiltshire – Weekend
So much history around this one. Originally done in 1978 by the Patrick Adams-produced studio band Phreek, this rework is classic NY Disco. Mixed by resident Garage DJ Larry Levan, this record is a great segue into any Disco mix. –Money Mike
RAH Band – Messages From The Stars
This is a little obscure but good nonetheless. I brought it through one night and it rang off. Became a favorite. –Just Blaze
Don Blackman – Heart’s Desire
Don Blackman’s Heart’s Desire; amazing tune from one of Jamaica, Queens’ finest. This is a special record to MM! history because when he passed, Mobile Mondays! hosted his tribute with a full band, consisting of many of the original players who recorded on the Blackman album, including Lenny White and Barry Johnson with Don’s daughter Irene singing lead vocals. It was such a special night and his presence and energy was definitely felt. –Natasha Diggs
Trussel – Love Injection
The intro is legendary. The vocal arrangements build to a plateau and takes you on a non-stop roller coaster of Disco Funk peaks and valleys!!! –Joey Carvello
Bo Kool – (Money) No Love
Classic Disco! I was excited to find this on 45. A must have if you don’t own a copy. –Just Blaze
Reuben Wilson – Got To Get Your Own
Reuben Wilson was a staple in London clubs/parties for the dancers back in the day. He’s an American artist, but it seems a far better known cut in the UK. If anyone goes wild with recognition here, it’s usually a Brit which is cool as I get to connect with my music people from home. –Misbehaviour
Mobile Mondays! is NYC’s premier 45s vinyl night, founded in 2011 by Operator Emz, honoring the 45 RPM record. Its mission is to save the music, preserve DJ culture and bring back the vibe and soul of NYC.
The DJs are real curators on the turntables who fold the crowd into their vision of the party. Every week, you will hear the rarest of grooves followed by classic dance floor burners. The DJs are the artistic directors of the party, each with a treasure trove of singles that have special significance to their musical journey. MM! takes listeners back to an era when DJs dug a little deeper and brings NYC’s vinyl rats and music lovers together to celebrate everything from Funk & Soul, Disco, House, Punk Rock, New Wave, Pop, Salsa, Rock & Roll, Reggae, Rhythm & Blues and anything else classic and danceable on 45s and vinyl records. Mobile Mondays! takes place every Monday night at The Bowery Electric.
