Top 30 Most Expensive Items Sold In Discogs Marketplace For August 2019

When I think of August, all that comes to mind is slacking off around a swimming pool and eating loads of ice cream. But I haven’t really had an August like that for a million years. And it seems like a lot of you haven’t had one like that either in 2019. August is a weird month to buy extremely expensive records, but we assume a lot of you don’t agree with this statement. In August 2019, no item on the Top 30 was sold for less than $1,234 (beautiful number, by the way). It seems like the trend we identified some months ago is still going strong.

But let’s focus on what’s new here. We have a new number 1. And it’s a number 1 you’ve never seen before by a band that you’ve most likely seen millions of times everywhere: The Rolling Stones. And I’m going to repeat it: this record has never appeared before in our Top 30. Just to give you an idea of the momentum The Rolling Stones were going through in 1969, they released Beggars Banquet in 1968, Let It Bleed in 1969, and Sticky Fingers in 1971. As much as I would like to pretend that I’m familiar with this release variant, the truth is that I’m not. But, as in most cases, the Discogs Community has me covered with sweet information about it:

This is the UK version of the radio sampler. In the accompanying letter it says “Only 200 copies of this promotional record have been produced in England….Incidentally, the sleeves were printed in the United States and, therefore, the publishing details and timings refer to the American record and it would be appreciated if the record label itself could be referred to for copyright and programming purposes”.
The vinyl was manufactured in England.
The running order differs slightly from the US release, the UK version of “Everybody Needs Somebody To Love” substitutes the US version, most tracks are a few seconds longer than their US counterparts. Timings above are given according to the info on the label.

There you go, you can check at the bottom of this list how much its lucky new owner paid to own this extremely rare collector’s item.

But don’t stop there, rare releases by George Harrison (x2), Bathory, Guided By Voices, or Can (well sorry, The Can), and many more are also spread around the list. If you know anything we don’t know about some of these exclusive records, please let us know in the comments.
