The monthly most expensive list is back and better than ever with some hard-to-find hard rock, classic punk, and one record filled with fake blood! Before getting to the blood-filled LP, let’s break down a few trends that the February 2022 list has surfaced.
This month, there are two releases that made the list twice. Two different copies of Leaf Hound’s Growers Of Mushroom and the Misfits’ Cough/Cool single sold for hefty sums. Is it a coincidence or is there a reason that multiple copies of each release sold for top dollar in February? A recent reissue of Growers Of Mushroom and the Misfits being announced as headliners at Riot Fest may have something to do with it.
Although it’s vinyl heavy as usual, this particular most expensive list has a few massive box sets that put CDs in the spotlight. The Herbert von Karajan box set included here contains 330 CDs, 24 DVDs, and 2 Blu-ray discs. When you combine the amount of music found on each disc, the total run time is over 405 hours. The Woodstock: Back To The Garden box set also made the list with contents that include 38 CDs and a Blu-ray.
Okay, let’s talk about this blood-filled LP. If you’re a horror soundtrack aficionado, you’ve probably heard about Waxwork Records‘ most coveted release, the blood-filled pressing of Harry Manfredini’s iconic Friday The 13th score. According to the database, less than 75 copies were made. Being liquid-filled and extremely limited has established this pressing as one that fans are willing to shell out big bucks for. If you’re wondering how they manufacture liquid-filled records, you can learn more here.
