We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again; the real winner of the top 30 most expensive records sold on Discogs is Banksy.
Scrolling through September’s top 30, you’ll see his work on the covers of 4 of the 30 records. That’s a lot by anyone’s standards, let alone an artist whose trade is not typically album cover art. The two versions of DJ DM‘s Laugh Now EP that each went for $1129 are identical, only one is silver and the other is bronze. These very limited releases have seen a huge spike in value over the past few years; a copy of the silver version sold for just over $80. Likewise, the boxset taking the number one spot for September has increased nearly 10x in value since 2009, proving that records are a sound investment (or so we’ll keep telling ourselves).
An honorable mention goes out to The Wuffy Dogs – Wuffy Dogs, which would have cracked the top 30 most expensive records sold on Discogs in August, but missed out due to the transaction not being finalized in time. This would have been the second time this record surfaced in the top 30 most expensive records, with its first appearance in August 2015.
