Update on Site Speed / New Hardware

Since our last post we’ve been working on a number of changes behind the scenes to make Discogs faster. Most important, we’re now running on four database servers instead of one. Two of those are configured as the main database cluster, and the other two are a cluster of user-specific data. Right now that second cluster just contains your inbox but we’ll be moving more data there over time. As a result the site should seem faster now and your inbox should be much faster.

We also ordered two extra database servers to act as slaves in the main cluster. These are dual quad-core Opteron servers with 32 GB ram each! They are scheduled to arrive today and should be up and running within a week. The site is going to get much faster after that.
